It took 3 years to finish the first sections of the Great Baikal Trail with the help of volunteers from all over the world. Now, hikers can discover these first trails by themselves.

In the summer of 2005, a team of Baikalplan Association started mapping five of those trails.

The longest trail, the one that is easiest to reach can be found in the Pribaikalski Nationalpark and leads from Listvyanka to Bolshoye Goloustnoye. Another two routes are located in the Khamar Daban Mountains opposite Listvyanka. They too are easy to reach but they offer a different flora and fauna. A bit further north and also at the east coast, in the Sabaikalski Nationalpark, leisurely hikers as well as those who prefer steep mountain slopes will be able to enjoy themselves.

Work at the Great Baikal Trail will be continued in the following years and so we are still looking for volunteers who want to help during the summer months, and also want to get into contact with Russians and other volunteers from all different parts of the world.

Sorry but we will add the descriptions of the trails from Lisvyanka to Bol. Goloustnoye and in the Baikalsky Reserve as soon as possible!!!
