Day Trips from Irkutsk to Lake Baikal

There is not always enough time to come and visit Lake Baikal with the appropriate peace and quietness in order to stay for a longer period of travelling. But even though on the world map it might seem like Irkutsk is situated directly ashore of Lake Baikal, it is about 40 miles away from it. Anyway, there are three ways of going to Lake Baikal. The fastest way of transportation is by hydrofoil (Raketa) on the river Angara to Listvyanka or even further to Bolshije Koty.. Furthermore it is, of course, possible to go by car, marshrutka, or by bus to Listvyanka or to the Southern shore of Lake Baikal to Kultuk. The third a little longer but reasonably priced way is by commuter train (elektritshka) to the Southern shore, reaching Kultuk or Sludjanka, or by a special train at weekends running along the old Transsiberian Railway to Port Baikal.
